IPL Photorejuvenation
When you are bothered by how your facial skin appears because of dark spots or sun damage, Ageless Aesthetics can perform a skin consultation at our Warner Robins or Macon, GA office to see if you would benefit from IPL (intense pulsed light) photorejuvenation.
An IPL photofacial is a skin rejuvenation treatment for adult women and men with hyperpigmentation issues on their face and neck. This treatment may be a noninvasive process, but it can be highly effective and produce amazing outcomes. Board-certified aesthetic physician Dr. Anayo Umerah uses intense wavelengths of light that heat the skin just enough to set off the natural healing process and increase the production of collagen. Over time, you should begin to see a healthier complexion with an improved tone and fewer spots of pigmentation.

- Refreshed, rejuvenated skin appearance

An IPL photofacial works deep within the layers of your skin to correct several complexion blemishes (particularly sun spots and brown lesions) with minimal or no recovery time needed. Candidates for IPL treatments at Ageless Aesthetics may have a combination of issues with their skin, such as sun damage, rosacea, brown spots (or hyperpigmentation), rough texture, large pores, flushing, freckles, melasma, age spots, sun spots, or broken capillaries. Dr. Umerah or a member of her team will examine your skin to determine if you are a candidate for an IPL photofacial during your initial consultation.
Your IPL face treatment will be completed at either our Warner Robins or Macon, GA office in around 20 – 30 minutes. To start the treatment, Dr. Umerah will wash and dry your skin before protecting your eyes with covers. The IPL laser photofacial is administered using a handheld wand that will pass over the skin while emitting light energy pulses. While many patients experience mild discomfort, it’s generally tolerable given the short treatment time.
There is virtually no recovery period associated with an IPL, although you may leave our office with your skin a little red and swollen. This will decrease on its own throughout the day. Over the course of 2 – 5 days, the sun damage and other irregularities that rested under the skin will come to the surface and begin to flake away. It’s critical to keep your skin protected with sunscreen at all times after a photofacial and to not pick at your skin. While you should have some visible results after your first session, your complexion will attain ideal results with multiple IPL photofacial treatments. Dr. Umerah recommends most patients get 3 – 6 treatments performed every four weeks at Ageless Aesthetics for optimal results.
Some results can be seen after each IPL treatment, but optimal results are visible a month after a full series of treatments is completed. It is normal for patients to respond differently to every session. You will notice gradual improvements of blotchiness, redness, and spots (age, brown, and sun) over time.
You may experience mild, temporary side effects, like redness, swelling, crusting, bruising, or superficial blisters. This should subside within a day or two after the procedure. You will be sun sensitive and excessive sun exposure can impact the results of the procedure. Whenever you go outside, you should always wear sunscreen and/or protective clothing to avoid damage like redness and spots.
Patients about to undergo an IPL treatment are usually asked to skip self-tanners and excessive sun for about 2 – 4 weeks before the procedure. You may be asked to stop using certain medications a few days before your treatment, and we may recommend taking aspirin or ibuprofen 5 – 7 days before your procedure to reduce inflammation, which lowers your chance of bruising. You also need to use sunscreen.
Multiple IPL photofacial sessions are better for delivering natural-looking improvements to the appearance of your skin. Each treatment will fade spots and other surface irregularities. Several sessions also allow for longer-lasting improvements.
