Spider veins are common and often appear in our older years as a result of age, genetics, obesity, blood clots, or other medical conditions. At Ageless Aesthetics, our professional team serves patients near Macon and southern Georgia to meet their cosmetic needs. If protruding or deeply colored veins keep you from showing off your skin, we offer sclerotherapy treatments to help minimize the appearance of spider veins and beautify your skin.
What is sclerotherapy?
Sclerotherapy is a minimally invasive procedure that uses injectable solutions to diminish the appearance of spider veins or telangiectasia. Spider veins are twisted blood vessels that are visible through the skin. A solution is injected directly into the vein, which causes the tissue to scar over so that blood has to reroute through a healthier vein. Over time, the vein that was injected is reabsorbed into the tissue and fades away.
What are three benefits of sclerotherapy treatment?
At Ageless Aesthetics in Warner Robins, GA, our team wants to provide optimal cosmetic outcomes that patients will be happy with. Three benefits of participating in sclerotherapy treatments include:
- Feeling comfortable showing off your skin
- Using a minimally invasive technique with little to no downtime
- Getting results that last
Our team near Macon, GA can assist you in minimizing spider veins all over your body, but the most common places these veins appear include the face and legs.
Am I an ideal candidate for sclerotherapy?
You may be an ideal candidate for sclerotherapy if you live with spider veins. One of our professional team members will perform a comprehensive assessment and collect your personal history to confirm if you have spider veins and if sclerotherapy is the proper treatment. Patients may not qualify for sclerotherapy treatment if they:
- Have heart disease
- Have blood clotting disorders
- Are pregnant
- Are breastfeeding
In rare instances, some patients may experience an allergic reaction to the treatment solution, and our team is prepared and ready to monitor such reactions.
What does the treatment process look like?
Treatment sessions take place in one of our private treatment rooms at Ageless Aesthetics. Blood vessels to be treated are marked, and the surrounding skin is properly sanitized. Typically, sclerotherapy injections can take place without anesthesia. Once the solution is administered, the injection site is covered with gauze to prevent minor bleeding. Patients are sent home with compression garments worn over each treatment site to optimize results.
What will I need to do for recovery?
Patients can expect bruising, swelling, or tenderness at each injection site for the first couple of days after treatment. Our team instructs each patient to continue wearing the pressure garments for a certain period. For the most part, patients can resume normal, nonstrenuous activities almost immediately after treatment.
How long will it take to notice results?
Typically, it takes a few weeks for the treated veins to be reabsorbed into the tissue. Patients can expect optimal results approximately one month after the initial treatment. Additionally, patients may need more than one treatment session to achieve the results they desire.
Will my spider veins come back after treatment?
Once a spider vein is scarred over and reabsorbed into the tissue, it usually does not return. However, sclerotherapy does not prevent nontreated spider veins from forming in other areas of the skin.
